Fundamentals of Unix/Linux

This course presents a short history of the UNIX and Linux operating systems, Linux distributions, the general Linux resources available on the Notre Dame campus and in the Center for Research Computing. You'll learn how to connect to a remote Linux machine using the Secure Shell (SSH). Basic Linux commands and examples are covered. We'll show Commands for transferring data to/from machines, and how to manage the common archive & compression formats. Basic AFS command line utilities are covered. If time permits, we finish with few more advanced topics.
